Our Top Reason for Epoxy Flooring in Utah
Sure, an epoxy coating may look good, but is it a good investment in Utah? The sometimes extreme weather can make you question whether or not it can withstand the all of that snow and salt. Many people move into Utah thinking that their cement is going to last for decades like it can in other places. Not too many years pass before they realize that their once beautiful cement is in need of a "redo". Well, don't make the mistake of not investing in an epoxy coating this time! It can withstand even the harsh wear and tear of Utah! Your concrete is going to look better for much longer.
This isn't to say that epoxy makes your cement invincible. Over time, it is still going to wear. The difference is that patching up the small amount of cracks or imperfections that do still happen are going to be much cheaper to get looking like new again. You can quickly and easily patch up the cement and add a new layer of epoxy. Much better than a whole new slab of concrete, right?
So, how does epoxy even work? To really become confident in this being a good purchase, you need to understand how epoxy works on a cellular level. There are two parts to epoxy. There is a resin and a hardener. These are both unstable compounds that bond so strongly to each other that it's almost impossible to get them to bond to anything else afterwards. That's why most corrosives and stains don't set in. Most of the time, they will simply bead up on top of the epoxy making almost every mess a "wipe up" job. Why does it bead up? Because the epoxy isn't able to bond to anything else without first breaking that resin and hardener bond, which we already said is extremely strong. Essentially, to break that bond takes a powerful acid. Why is epoxy flooring so durable? For the same reason that it is so stain resistant. The bond made between the resin and hardener has been engineered to cause the molecules to "cross-link". What this means is that once the resin and hardenered are mixed, the epoxy created is basically like a huge tangle of knots that gives an effect of the whole surface being one huge connected molecule. We hope that this explanation enough to help you understand the strength of this incredible compound.
